A Little About Dysart
Dysart is a Central Queensland town in the Isaac Region, established in 1973 to support the developing Saraji coal mine. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 2,918 people.
Mining remains a defining part of local life, particularly through nearby Saraji, while cattle and grain properties are also part of the surrounding district. The town’s connection with coal and rail is hard to miss — visitors arriving from the north are greeted by the huge belly dump coal hauler and coal wagon installed to mark Dysart’s 25th anniversary in 1998.
Dysart is also an established family community with primary and secondary schools, sporting facilities, a recreation centre, swimming pool, golf and bowls clubs, parks and local services.
Beyond town, the landscape opens into the striking Peak Range country. Lord’s Table Mountain lies about 40 kilometres west of Dysart and forms part of Peak Range National Park. Explorer Ludwig Leichhardt travelled through this country in 1845 and climbed nearby Campbell Peak during his expedition through Central Queensland.
