About Moranbah
Moranbah was established as a purpose-built coal mining town in the early 1970s and has grown to become the largest community in Queensland’s Isaac Region. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 9,425 people.
The town is known for its strong community spirit and mining heritage. Local landmarks include Moranbah Town Square, the Coalface Art Gallery, the Moranbah Miners’ Memorial and Federation Walk, which leads to the town’s well-known Big Red Rhino Bucket.
With schools, sporting clubs, parks, a public swimming pool, shops, restaurants and community facilities, Moranbah is much more than a mining centre — it is home to families who have built their lives in the heart of the Bowen Basin.
